Project Completed 2021
Project Partners Martin Donlin, Brett McDanel and Anton Morton
Project Media Aluminum Frame, Art Glass, Powder Coated Steel
Overview
The art vestibule design, conceived by our team, dynamically activates the entry of the new Tennis Center Clubhouse, transforming the space into a vibrant interplay of color and shadow. Beyond its aesthetic impact, the design subtly integrates tennis-centric motifs, subtly nodding to the sport’s dynamic movements and energy. During daylight hours, the vestibule interior is bathed in cascading hues and intricate shadow patterns, reminiscent of the play of light and shadow on a tennis court. These patterns, along with the overall form, evoke the swift volleys and graceful arcs of the game. At night, the structure illuminates the exterior like a kaleidoscopic beacon, a vibrant symbol of the center’s activity and a beacon for tennis enthusiasts.
This transformative design not only adheres to all structural codes and engineering requirements but also serves as a compelling visual statement, enriching the experience for players and visitors alike. The artistic glazing designs, a testament to the creative vision of Martin Donlin, and the meticulously crafted metal designs by Brett McDanel, coalesce in this collaborative project, overseen and expertly managed by team lead Anton Morton.
Our primary objective was to establish a welcoming sense of place, effectively branding the activities of this new addition to what is the second largest indoor/outdoor tennis center in the United States. Competing for this public project, our team strategically collaborated on a design that could be efficiently fabricated both in-house and externally. Brett McDanel Studio meticulously designed and hand-fabricated the powder-coated metal screens that elegantly overlay the glass, their intricate patterns suggesting the interwoven lines of a tennis net or the trajectory of a well-placed shot.
Martin Donlin’s glass designs were realized as low-e insulated glass units (IGUs) using dip-tech fabrication, further enhancing the dynamic visual effect. The seamless installation of the glazing and aluminum components was expertly managed by The Glass Specialists via Manko Windows, while the installation of the superimposed metal elements was handled in-house. The distinctive art marker, conceived by the Creative Team and fabricated by Direct Embed, further contributes to the project’s unique identity. Ensuring long-lasting durability, all powder coat finishes were custom blended from Tiger Drylac Series 38 pigments, guaranteeing 25 years of service to the facility.
