Project Title The Windswept Wall

Project Completed 2019

Project Partners Brett McDanel and Anton Morton

Project Media Corten and Stainless Steel with LED Lighting
Overview
The Windswept Wall design was inspired by the landscape that will surround it. Abstract waving wheat superimposes the undulating organic lines of the convex wall surface. The organic nature of the wall is intended to contrast the strong structural lines of the building while the ever-changing weathered steel wall surface offers neutral tones that complement the building and the landscape; helping to bridge the two. The wall design offers three optional surface finishes for the abstract wheat surface applications that complete the design. The Windswept Wall is an Art Screen Wall designed and fabricated by Brett McDanel using weathered (Corten) steel and stainless steel and measuring 50 linear feet by 7 feet high on an engineered support system. Windswept Wall, by Brett McDanel, Made possible by the Oklahoma City 1% for Art Initiative, Project Manager and Photo Credit, Kasum Contemporary Fine Art Services.

Goals
The goal was to design a sculptural screen that would accentuate the building in it's environment while complimenting the facility finishes.

Process
This was a competitive project, through the Oklahoma City Percent for Art Program, that required a design proposal be presented. Following presentation and selection we worked with facility stakeholders, city stakeholders and the architecture team to amend aspects of the design to meet code requirements and design ideals. Once approved, we provided administrative support and oversight through fabrication, finish and installation.
